About Zach Levenson

Zach Levenson is a Saxophonist, Composer and Arranger who has recently moved from New York City to the Denver metro area. He received his bachelor's degree in music theory and composition with a minor in Jazz from West Chester University where he studied saxophone privately for four years. Zach then went on to William Paterson University where he received his Master's Degree in Jazz Composition and Arranging and had the opportunity to study with Cecil Bridgewater, Pete McGuinness and Jim McNelly. During his time in New York, Zach had the fortune of being a member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop. The audition only workshop was established by Bob Brookmeyer in the late 1980's to give developing and professions jazz composer/arrangers and opportunity to continue to hone their skills. Today the workshop is still running strong under the leadership of Andy Farber and Ted Nash.

As a teacher, Zach's primary goal is to help students achieve their goals and find their way to becoming well rounded musicians. That means that a student not only is technically proficient in playing their current pieces, but knows how to produce a good tone and engage in active listening. Most importantly, Zach aims to teach each student concepts that will help them develop their own skills and navigate musical obstacles for themselves. Zach will not only improve all facets of their skills on the instrument but also improve their understanding of music theory, music history and ear training. By doing this, students will have a better understanding of the music and will be able to perform better and enjoy playing music more!
