About W Michael Karantonis

Michael Karantonis was born and raised in Marietta, Georgia. Following his older brother's footsteps, Michael began his music journey in 2010 on the trombone where his love and interest for music sparked.

During his high school career at Lassiter, Michael became heavily involved in varying musical opportunities which furthered his interest of music. At the beginning of his sophomore year (2014), Michael began to study bass trombone, which eventually became his full-time instrument. He went on to perform on many different occasions, including the Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis with the Lassiter Symphonic II Band (2014), district honor band (2015 - 2017), All State Band (2015 and 2017), district honor symphony orchestra (2016), and more. At the end of his senior year of high school, Michael received the Symphonic I Director's Award, which recognizes skills in musicianship, diligence and leadership.

Michael currently studies music education at Kennesaw State University where he performs with varying groups such as the KSU Wind Symphony, brass ensembles, and trombone choirs. Michael studies trombone with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's bass trombonist, Brian Hecht. Michael's also enjoys music composition, where his works encompass both trombone chamber music and electronic music.
