About Vincent Newton
Mesmerized by the sound of his older siblings practicing, Vincent became hooked on the piano and on music from age 5. Throughout high school, he studied at the Northeast Iowa School of Music, as well as accompanying for church and school choirs and playing in local bands. He studied at Grinnell College, Iowa, earning a degree in math and in music, focusing on piano and composition. Vincent studied piano under the direction of Eugene Gaub, and during a semester abroad in Milan, Italy, studied composition with Roberto Andreoni.
Upon graduating, Vincent moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he accompanied for dance and choir, performed and recorded in several Columbus bands, and taught extensively all ages, abilities and genres.
Vincent is now making Seattle his new home and he continues to accompany and teach. His approach to teaching is to get the student to enjoy making music, whether that be classical, jazz, pop or nursery tunes. However, he also feels students deserve a well-rounded musical education. So fundamentals, technique, musical theory and history are all interwoven in the lessons so the student can learn more than the notes on the page and grow as a musician.
