About Taylor Nelson

Taylor is a professional musician and college graduate with a lifetime of experience in music. Since moving to Denver he has been teaching private lessons to children aged 5-12 in the greater Denver area. He can offer guitar, mandolin, piano, or harmonica lessons; or multiple instruments.

Taylor began playing piano by ear through the Suzuki method at the age of 5, but discontinued at the age of 8 for family reasons. He picked up the guitar at 14, and since has taught himself how to play mandolin, harmonica, and ukulele while rediscovering the piano and learning to read sheet music. He participated in bands, after-school music programs and open mics throughout high school, learning from experienced professionals, including Grammy award winning musician Ann Marie Calhoun. He attended college where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, studying music history, theory and musical performance while obtaining a History degree. He has played frontman on guitar and vocals, lead on mandolin, backup vocal harmony and harmonica in many different musical settings and genres.

Taylor has a well-rounded background in all styles and genres, and approaches teaching with a different perspective. He offers all-in-one lessons: voice and multi-instrumental. You will learn both fundamentals and essential techniques, while learning theory, without ever stretching your brain too much. He believes music should be learned organically, not by taking exams, and that when you're enjoying yourself, the skills will come naturally.
