About Sean Johnson
Sean has taught guitar and piano for the past 5 years and has performed for 12 years in the Maryland/DC area. He began his study of music at his high school and even worked with several Salisbury University teachers like Danielle Cummings while in high school. He is the second place winner of the 2009 Salisbury University Classical Guitar Competition. Sean graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance with an emphasis in classical guitar at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. At UMBC, Sean led the guitar ensemble and performed with them at various musical festivals and events in the Maryland/DC area. He studied under Peabody alumni Zane Forshee and Matthew Dunlap.
At UMBC, Sean also studied piano and received further pedagogical training from Heather Johnston with Lessons In Your Home. He works with young beginners through intermediate level students through a wide variety of methods and styles. Sean believes that piano is the gateway to all future musical study, and the fundamentals on this instrument can blend seamlessly with future instrumental training. In the realm of guitar study, Sean teaches from young beginner ages through college audition level students.
Sean is an enthusiastic teacher who strives to inspire each student to develop passion, energy, and fulfillment in music. Sean understands each student has a specific musical interests and desires and seeks to nurture each student's musical style while continually advocating the correct technique, pedagogy, and fundamentals. He is proficient in performing and teaching classical, rock, acoustic, blues, jazz, metal, and various other musical styles. He teaches all varieties of guitar and piano.
