About Rebekah Way

Rebekah is an active alto saxophonist and educator based in Seattle, WA with experience in multiple musical styles. She graduated from Western Washington University in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in music with a concentration in jazz studies. She has worked as a private woodwinds teacher since 2014.

Music is a lifelong passion for Rebekah. She has been playing the clarinet since the age of 10 and saxophone since the age of 12. Her passion for music expanded at WWU, where she was actively involved in high-level jazz ensembles and combos. During this time, she also picked up piano and flute. Rebekah studied traditional music theory as well as jazz history, theory and improvisation. She had the opportunity to learn from and attend masterclasses with several guest artists while at WWU, including Damani Phillips, Kareem Kandi and Jessika Smith Additionally, she was a disc jockey at WWU's student radio station, where she regularly discovered new artists and musical styles.

Rebekah currently plays saxophone professionally in the Seattle area with her band Motus and as a fill-in for various projects. She has performed at several local venues and toured much of the Pacific Northwest. Her favorite pastime is sharing new musical discoveries with other people. Rebekah enjoys teaching students of all ages, experience levels and abilities and strives to find multiple ways to approach a concept in order to help students fully grasp challenging topics. As an educator, she hopes to foster a lifelong passion and excitement for music in others.
