About Peter Campanelli

Peter Campanelli is driven by music. On a day to day basis, there is nothing more to him than important the pursuit of human expression though sound by means of listening, playing, writing, and recording. He started learning piano in 1st grade and has since picked up guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. Originally from St. Paul, MN, he graduated high school from St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists with an emphasis on jazz studies and electric bass. In his youth in the Twin Cities, Peter was a prolific collaborator in the arts scene playing bass in many different bands and recordings at the McNally Smith College of Music (where he did not attend but frequented). At this time, he also jumped into the world of self-recording.

Immediately after high school, he wrote and recorded his first long-form pieces of music (multi-song suites). Initially, he wrote the album, "Tangerine Screams" by his band The Everett Interpretation and also Peter Campanelli's own solo debut on Subaquatic Records entitled, "Are you ever even there?" On his home recordings, Peter Campanelli often plays all the instruments. After high school and these recording projects, Peter moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music.

At Berklee College of Music, Peter studied electric bass and a Bachelor's of Music Production and Engineering. In the Boston arts community, he flourished as an important backing member in various neo-soul/RnB outfits, jazz trios and quartets, and any recording project that a peer needed help on. Peter gained a lot experience as a gigging musician during this time, finding himself in all corners of Boston performing all kinds of music. During this time, he also recorded his most recent and ambitious musical suite, a 52-minute song cycle entitled "Horseback record," released on Subaquatic Records. Although he did not acquire a degree from Berklee, the experience gained and knowledge imparted from his time there is invaluable to his identity as a composer and musician.

Since then, Peter has moved to the PNW and began teaching and working on his next solo composition. Although new to the profession, Peter has spent a long time ruminating on the best way to pass the knowledge he has gained from his experiences on to a young, eager mind. He believes music lessons should be fun and something to look forward to in addition to being educational. Music teachers have been an invaluable part of his life and the idea of teaching someone about something so near and dear to him is exhilarating. In the end, Peter believes the joy of music can be transcendental and he hopes to share his excitement about the art with others.
