About Olivia Shaw

Olivia began playing violin at the age of three and has built a life around the creation and celebration of music. Trained classically in the studios of Laura Barnette, Dr. Marianne Perkins, and Allegra Wermuth, she was fortunate to play both on her own and with other local violinists in a chamber ensemble setting. Currently pursuing a B.S. in Music Business with a minor in Violin Performance at the University of Colorado Denver, Olivia has developed a passion for improvised styles that complement her deep foundation in the classical world.

Currently, Olivia plays fiddle and writes songs with Avenhart, a Denver-based indie folk band, her new bluegrass band, Mo' High Mo' Lonesome, as well as with several other musicians, ranging in styles from singer/songwriter (Chloe Tang, Sydney Clapp, Anna Smith) to rock and roll (Vermillion Road, Save Our City, Tyler Imbrey's Ghost Revue). She has experience writing for and playing on records ranging from children's music to independent film scores. Her passion for studying and playing genres like bluegrass and jazz leads her to create a well-rounded approach for students to learn about the many different styles of music that can be crafted through the violin.
