About Nicholas Velez
Nicholas Velez has dedicated over twenty years in the Orchestral ensembles, both as a performing violinist and as lead conductor of several successful public performing groups. He completed his education in instrumental music education at Wichita State University, under violin scholarship for the symphony and venturing into two years of Jazz Guitar performance, studying the direction of world class conductor Dr. Mark Laycock, Jazz guitarist Craig Owens, renowned instrumental music theory book writer and educator Jacquelyn Dillon, and Special Music Education specialist Dr. Elaine Bernstorf.
Nicholas Velez creates welcoming atmospheres, empowers student musicianship and creativity, and encourages the strong fundamentals of beginning string students of all ages and skill levels. Creating ground up programs in Dallas ISD and building interest in the performing arts is the passion that led to opportunities to take lead conducting roles in Mesquite ISD. Over the past seven years of public school orchestra directing, Nicholas Velez has found the true benefit of students having the opportunity to creatively express themselves in the music classroom.
The ability to understand, enjoy, read, perform, and create music allows students and musicians of all ages and skill levels to effectively express emotions, minimize daily stress, and have an artistic outlet in their lives. Through all the years both conducting and performing with community orchestras, charitable events, public school performing groups and individualized lessons, Nicholas Velez knows that music can touch all lives in so many truly beneficial ways.
