The close relationship between music and positive brain function has been demonstrated in numerous studies. For a student of any age, the opportunity to forge a rewarding relationship with a musical instrument can be the beginning of a lifelong adventure that will reap benefits in all areas of human experience. Neil is a living witness to the power of music in shaping and defining life, work, and education, and he takes seriously the responsibility of providing a positive musical experience. Being able to play a musical instrument is truly one of the great life skills, one that can powerfully impact our human experience for the better!
Neil's professional musical career has taken him all over the world. Born and raised in England, he emigrated to the United States in the year 2000, settling in the Washington, DC area. A pianist, organist, and conductor, he works with choirs, orchestras, and soloists throughout the region. He is the Music Director at St. Stephen Martyr Church in Washington, DC, where he directs a fully professional choir, renowned for its excellence, and where he plays one of the best organs in the city. He is also the Keyboard Artist at Temple Sinai in Washington, DC, where he has the privilege of playing a gorgeous 9 foot Steinway concert grand piano, truly one of life's great pleasures!
Neil has worked with students at every level and at every age. He has taught at schools from kindergarten through High School on both sides of the Atlantic, and he has been on faculty at both Northern Virginia Community College and George Washington University. He believes that music lessons are like going on a world tour. You never know exactly what you're going to find along the way, but with the proper planning and guidance you can reach your various destinations, have fun, and you never know when you're going to have an experience that might just change your life. Music lessons are only as successful as the planning and vision that lies at their foundation. Neil believes that there is an appropriate plan for every student and with the right combination of factors, tailored to each individual, anyone can have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience playing a musical instrument. That is his goal with all his students.
