About Miguel Varela
Miguel Varela, professional pianist, received a Bachelor's Degree in Musicology earning the valedictorian award from the Central University of Venezuela. In addition, he earned a minor degree in arts and theater. His thesis project was an edition of the contemporary composer Gerardo Gerulewicz piano works.
Miguel has dedicated his life to the arts and music starting as a hobby and now becoming his career and passion. He started from an early age with a wide range of different instruments until he found his real passion, the piano. He studied piano for 11 years at The Conservatory "Juan Jose Landaeta" where he got to really define his musical and performing skills. Choir, harmony, counterpoint, music education and opera vocal lessons were just a few of the classes he took in his years of studying to become a professional pianist.
Miguel performed the lead role of Don Giovanni in Mozart's opera "Don Giovanni", as well as several minor roles. In piano, he has performed Beethoven 32 Sonatas, J.S Bach's well tempered clavier, Chopin Etudes and Mozart's piano concerts. He also had the opportunity to be a part of the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami under the direction of Kenneth Boos where he got to perform "Handel Messiah".
In addition, he has taught music theory, piano lessons and harmony for over 5 years to kids and teenagers. In Venezuela, Miguel was the teacher of over 6 grades for piano lessons in an elementary school. He has also previously taught private vocal and piano lessons. He specializes in teaching kids who are just starting in this music world and don't have much knowledge of the instruments. Over his years working in the industry, he has realized that teaching other people how to become proficient in an instrument is truly amazing and thinks that seeing his students perform and sharing the same passion for the instrument is the biggest reward he could get.
