About Michael Owcharuk

Michael Owcharuk is a Seattle based composer, pianist, accordionist, and educator. He is a project oriented artist working in jazz, new music, classical, rock, Eastern European folk, and music for dance and theater. Currently Michael co-directs the Seattle Jazz Composers Ensemble, leads multiple professional ensembles, maintains a private instruction studio, and collaborates with a diverse community of local artists. Michael holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Piano from Cornish College of the Arts. He has received support for his music from 4Culture, The Seattle Mayors Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, and Jack Straw Productions. He and his music have been featured on/by NPR, KEXP, KBCS, Bumbershoot, Earshot Jazz, Sounds Outside, and many other venues in the Pacific Northwest. As a teacher, Michael draws upon his professional and academic experiences to teach practical keyboard and musical skills based in solid understanding of fundamentals. He believes in a personable, laid-back, yet diligent approach that works to convey the profound level of enjoyment and communication the practice of music can provide.
