About Michael Maloy

Michael was born and raised in the Seattle area in a highly musical family, starting piano lessons at the age of 8. After just a few more years, he set his sights on completing 10 years of lessons and accomplished that goal amidst learning to play several other instruments. Studying under William Chapman-Nyaho, internationally acclaimed teacher, recording artist, and Pacific Lutheran University faculty member was the inspiration that led him to become a teacher himself.

Michael attended Seattle Pacific University, working with their Wind Symphony and orchestra as a principal tuba player which has been the highlight of his music career so far. Being a self-taught instrumentalist, it taught him the value of BOTH hard work and fun for personal growth that he wishes to share with others.

During his years as a performer in award-winning jazz ensembles, a Capella groups, brass ensembles and even a few theater shows in the pit he gained a deep understanding of the most popular styles of music that he shares today with students in the form of creative approaches to learning.

In addition to teaching new and existing pianists now, he is working towards a Master's degree in Film Composition as well as some classical and electronic compositions to break out of his comfort zone as an artist. And, hopefully, inspire others to do the same. There is a certain magic that music brings that cannot be replaced, and Michael strives to share that with his students.

Music is fun, so lessons should be, too! He wants to help his students develop a lifelong bond with the piano as well as build brain, motor, and social skills from playing that will be valuable for the rest of their lives.
