About Luis Ocasio
Luis has been drumming since age 2. Luis first started drumming with Latin percussion instruments such as congas, bongos, and timbales. Luis has played in many different musical settings that range from salsa bands and jazz combos to musical theater.
Luis spent two years studying orchestral percussion at a local community college. While there, he won the FSCAA Winter Symposium competition for solo percussion.
Luis spent two more years at the University of North Florida to acquire his Bachelors of Jazz Studies degree while studying under Danny Gottlieb. Luis is also proud to have received instruction from Lynne Arriale, Dennis Marks, and Dave Steinmeyer while attending UNF.
Luis has been awarded a full ride scholarship to earn his Master of Music degree at the University of Miami. While there, he studied under Steve Rucker and multi-award winning drummer Dafnis Prieto.
