About Karl Mitze

Violin and Viola teacher Karl Mitze received his Master's in Viola Performance from the University of Maryland where he studied with Daniel Foster, principal of the National Symphony. Originally from Dade City, FL, he received his Bachelor's of Music from the McDuffie Center for Strings in Macon, GA. He currently performs with various ensembles across the greater DC area as a freelance and session violist including collaborations with the Radical Sound Ensemble and UMD Chamber singers among others. He is a founding member of invoke, a bowed and fretted string ensemble where he writes and performs on a variety of instruments. Recent accolades include honorable mention at the Savvy Musician in Action chamber music competition as a member of invoke and a full fellowship award at the Miami Summer Music Festival.
