About Karin Kilper
Karin Kilper is a viola and violin instructor in the Washington, D.C. area. Dedicated and passionate about sharing her knowledge, she enjoys teaching all ages and abilities.
When Karin first picked up the viola at age 9, she knew music would have a profound place in her life. She continued her study through childhood, and attended her first summer camp at the National Symphony Workshop at 16. Karin spent her senior year of high school enrolled in the Interlochen Arts Academy, and decided then to pursue music as a career.
Karin earned her bachelor's degree in Music from Louisiana State University (2004), during which time she was a substitute viola player in the Baton Rouge Symphony. She then went on to complete her master's in Music at the Peabody Institute, acting as Associate Principal viola during her two years there. Following her graduate years, Karin participated in many symphonies and orchestras including Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra, American Studio Orchestra, York Symphony and the National Philharmonic Orchestra, and was also featured as a soloist with Red Rock Chamber Orchestra. She continues to be an active performer with several regional orchestras including the Maryland Symphony and Amadeus Orchestra. In addition, Karin plays viola and sings in a rock band based out of D.C. She quotes Bartok, Prokofiev, Duke Ellington, Nickel Creek and more as inspirations for her music.
Karin is an enthusiastic and engaging instructor who employs a variety of teaching methods. Drawing from her vast experience, she understands that each student's needs and goals are different, and strives to find the approach that will best help them achieve their aspirations. Above all, Karin hopes to inspire each student to keep music in their hearts throughout their life.
