About Jonathan Moy
Jonathan Moy is an accomplished musician, having been classically-trained in piano. He studied with Izabella Vilensky for a decade and competed in various regional and local music festivals. Jonathan earned top awards and marks from festivals, competitions, and testings sponsored by various organizations including the Michigan Music Teachers Association (MMTA), Metropolitan Detroit Music League, National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC), Schoolcraft College of Music, Ann Arbor Bach Association, and the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.
A graduate of Hillsdale College, Jonathan took courses in conducting with James Holleman and voice with Melissa Osmond and Kristi Matson. On campus, Jonathan was also active in piano accompaniment, musical chamber groups, and the Mu Alpha music fraternity.
Jonathan has been taught theory, performance, technique, and sight-reading, particularly with music composed during the common practice period (1650-1900). He is committed to instilling a passion for music in the next generation. To him, music is a unique field where the individual must be able to control expression, communicate intentions clearly, and effectively direct their goals and passions for excellence. Combining the art of expression and the science of rhythm, music requires a careful ear, dedicated heart, and an open mind. It is this determination towards detail and improvement that has made him into the musical enthusiast that he is today. Jonathan is excited to work with students, helping them to understand not only the theory and technique of music but also performance practice and musical expression.
