About Johan Hartman

Johan Hartman is an operatically-trained bass-baritone, working as a free-lance performer, teacher, composer, and stage director in Miami. He is a recent graduate from the masters program in Voice at CCM.
The son of two accomplished classical musicians, his musical journey began from before he was born. He began playing piano at the age of five, he began singing professionally as a boy soprano soloist at 11, and began playing French horn at 12.
As a young bass-baritone he has performed a number of operatic roles, including Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro, Sarastro in The Magic Flute, Ariodate in Handel's Xerxes, Seneca in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Pistola in Verdi's Falstaff, and Truffaldin in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos.
As a composer he has written several song-cycles based off of works by some of the world's greatest poets, such as WB Yeats, Robert Browning, and TS Eliot. He is currently working on a trio sonata commissioned by the Miami-based performing arts group Mostly Baroque.
He is thrilled to start his new journey as a teacher, and incredibly glad for the opportunity to share his experience with the next generation of music-makers!
