About Jack Harrington
Jack Harrington grew up outside of Boulder, Colorado, and began playing saxophone in school bands at an early age. He earned a BM in Music Performance with a concentration in Jazz Studies from Colorado State University and studied under Peter Sommer and Wil Swindler. He has had the privilege of sharing the stage with jazz legends Matt Wilson, Marshall Gilkes, and Terell Stafford as well as acclaimed pianist and composer Myra Melford. Jack performs as a bandleader and sideman in genres ranging from straight-ahead jazz, experimental improvisation, to classical and orchestral music. He especially enjoys composing music and presenting it with other local musicians.
In college, Jack discovered his passion for teaching and began teaching saxophone, piano, clarinet, and flute lessons. His goal for his students is to deepen their understanding of music at any level and inspire his students to approach music with creativity. Jack has taught students varying from complete beginners on their instruments to professional musicians. In lessons, he focuses on technique and aural skills in addition to encouraging his students to create their own music, no matter their experience level. Some of Jack's former students have gone on to win awards in their school bands, get into all-state ensembles, and even play professionally.
