About Hannah Sitoy

Hannah Sitoy is from the city of Pearland, Texas and began studying classical piano at the age of five. She competed in various TMTA competitions under Cindy Mills and studied twelve years of music theory and music history. In middle school, she learned how to play the violin and the clarinet and began playing the keyboard for her church's worship team in high school. It was then that she started exploring the more improvisational side of piano playing and also picked up learning the acoustic guitar. Her junior year of high school, she started working as a music instructor for a music company in Pearland- which ignited her passion for teaching.

She graduated from UCLA with her bachelor's in neuroscience and a minor in music industry. In undergrad, she was a research assistant in a microglial lab and was a member of various community-oriented, pre-health, and tutoring-focused organizations. In particular, she was Co-President of an organization called SLAM! that sought to provide students in the LAUSD area with access to a music education by hosting after school music lessons for keyboard, guitar, drums, and voice.

During the pandemic, she worked as a substitute teacher for HISD; and for the 2021-2022 school year, she worked as a music and GT teacher for a charter school in Sugarland and pioneered the development of their curriculum for general music education.

Her primary objectives are to instill within her students a genuine love for music through mentorship and to help them see how music can foster a sense of community. She typically uses a method book (such as Faber or Alfred) as well as chord/lead sheets during her lessons. She understands that learning music is not a linear process; rather, it is more stairlike- where there are periods of stagnancy and moments where progress feels obstructed. However, all that signals is the necessity to try learning from a different angle and with a new approach.

In her free time, she enjoys songwriting, reading, binge-watching shows, trying new restaurants with friends, hiking, and working out.
