About Griff Kelley
Griff is a music producer and piano student currently attending CU Denver studying Music Business and Recording Arts with an emphasis in piano and trumpet performance. He comes from a wide background of musical influences, including but not limited to Classical, Modern, Jazz, Electronic, and Rock. He has studied piano, viola, and trumpet since he was twelve years old, and he has an extensive background in music theory, ear training, and composition from both independent studies and formal teachings.
Griff believes that teaching is one of if not the most important aspects of learning, and is always excited to bring on new students of all ages and abilities. He strives to imbue his own passion for music in all of his students through a student-oriented teaching style and believes patience, perseverance, and positive reinforcement are the core aspects of what separates a good teacher from a great one.
Griff's formal music training began when he entered the 6th grade, learning to play the trumpet in his school's band. He continued on with his trumpet studies all throughout middle and high school, reinforcing his passion for piano by Freshman year with formal private lessons where he also began learning viola and eventually played in his school's orchestra. He performed with his marching band on both keyboard and trumpet for three years in Dallas and moved to Denver his senior year where he studied jazz trumpet along with his other two instruments. He played lead piano in his school's theater productions all four years of high school and now gigs locally around downtown Denver playing jazz piano and keyboard synthesizer. Griff believes, as a multi-instrumentalist, that flexibility and versatility are the key aspects of a good performer's skillset.
