About Erika Hollister

Erika is in her third year of her Music Performance degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her primary instrument is French horn, and her secondary instrument is piano. She is also proficient in many other brass instruments as well as guitar. In her time at CU Boulder, she has performed with elite ensembles such as the CU Symphony Orchestra and the CU Wind Symphony. Additionally, she is a part of the Colorado COR Horn Quartet, a horn quartet at CU that has toured around the country as well as performed with the Colorado Symphony horn section. In the past, Erika also competed in the International Horn Competition of America and played with the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra.

Erika has taught with the Colorado Honor Band Association since high school, leading both sectionals and private lessons. For the past two years, she was the horn counselor for the Colorado Honor Band Summer Camp, and for the last year, she was a horn counselor for the Denver School of the Arts Horn Camp, as well as the University of Colorado Summer Music Academy. In these organizations, Erika has worked with students age 7-18. Because of this, she has experience in starting students on the instrument to preparation for college auditions.

Erika's primary goal as both an educator and a performer is to share that music and its performance is a fun and important part of everyday life. Between movie scores and classical orchestral works, large orchestras and small ensembles, solo artists and instrumentalists, we are constantly influenced by the music around us and life would be different without it.
