About Erik Payton
A multi-instrumentalist, Erik is collegiately trained in every instrument including Winds, Strings, Percussion, Vocals, and Piano. During his time in school, Erik performed in the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band (on a variety of Instruments), Jazz band, Brass Ensemble, Marching Band, Choir, and performed as a soloist and accompanist on Piano. Erik's training under Dr. Byrd and Dr. Gibson at UWG in Music Education inspired him to teach his students to express themselves through music. Erik has had experience playing for a handful of foundations throughout his academic journey at the University of West Georgia, where he held the principal trombone chair for the entirety of his degree. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Music Education and has his Georgia Professional Standards Commission Educator's Certificate. He has also spent time studying with the Salvation Army in their Music Education courses and had been awarded during his time at the Territorial Music Institute.
Not only does he have extensive training with trombone, Erik is also well versed in piano pedagogy. His passion is to help young musicians find their love for music whether it be through performing, listening, composing, or conducting. He aims to engage and inspire his students in each and every lesson.
