About Emily Rigsby

Three words to describe Emily Rigsby would be enthusiastic, goofy, and thoughtful. Born in Boise Idaho, Emily recently moved to Seattle to start her career in music education. Emily graduated from Whitman College in 2020 with a degree in Music and Anthropology. Emily's primary instruments she teaches are violin and viola primarily using the Suzuki Method Books, pop music, or pieces from diverse composers on request.

While in college, Emily studied violin and viola with Dr. Amy Dodds and developed a passion for studying diverse composers including music written by woman and/or people of color. She started violin in 5th grade in her public school orchestra class and found immense joy playing music with her friends in small ensembles. Emily has studied violin for over 14 years and has recently started to learn fiddle tunes in her free-time.

Emily is someone who is motivated by growing and improving, finding success by having an open mind and listening to others. Emily's values of mentorship, creativity, self expression, listening, dedication to diversity and inclusion has created positive spaces for all of her music students. From her experience of growing up in low-income family, she believe all students who want to continue their music education should have a space where they feel listened to, valued, safe, and challenged.
