About Elizabeth Johnson

Soprano, Elizabeth Ann Johnson was born in Seattle, WA, and recently moved back to be closer to her family after working steadily in the Boston area as a singer and voice teacher for over 20 years. She is a graduate of Seattle University where she earned degrees in Humanities and Foreign Language (German). She earned her Master of Music degree in Vocal and Opera Performance from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. While in Boston, she performed in operas and concerts with the Boston Bel Canto Opera. She appeared with the company in Norma, Roberto Devereux, Aida, Il Trovatore (Inez) and Don Carlo. In 2001 she appeared in the title role in Suor Angelica for a BBCO benefit concert, and in 2003 she sang the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor. For her singing in the BBCO Verismo Gala in September 2000, she was lauded in the Boston Globe for bringing "ringing high notes to Mimì's music from 'La Bohème.'" And "once again impressed...with her pleasingly bright edged soprano" for her performance in the Verdi Gala in February of 2001. In September 1999, she tied for second prize in a vocal competition sponsored by the Società Lirico Concertistica in Santa Margherita-Ligure, Italy. When not singing opera, Ms. Johnson enjoys singing oratorio, music theatre and art songs. Recently, she has performed Barber's Knoxville Summer of 1915 in concerts in Concord and Cambridge. She has appeared with the Polymnia Choral Society, Concord Chorus, Masterworks Chorale, Northshore Music Theatre and various recitals both solo and with colleagues.

Ms. Johnson has taught voice to students of all ages, in after school programs, at community music schools, in student homes and in her own studio. She most recently was on the faculty at Yamaha Music School of Boston, where she taught voice and conducted the Children's Choir, and at the Concord Conservatory of Music, where in addition to voice lessons, she taught group voice classes to children and adults. Other voice teaching experience include the music programs at Brimmer and May School in Chestnut Hill, the Pingree School, Wakefield High School, Braintree High School and Longy School of Music. She has lead master classes and vocal workshops for church choral singers. She is currently the Choir Director at Cascade View Presbyterian Church in Everett, WA. Her teaching style is to encourage each student to develop their voice to their fullest potential, to experience joy and success in singing, to develop techniques that will ensure a good sound and vocal longevity. Ms. Johnson meets students where they are and gently moves them forward with positive feedback and warmth.
