About Daniel Garzon

Daniel has been playing music since age 5, when his grandfather gifted him with a keyboard. He was self-taught until he started private lessons in 3rd grade. He took up viola upon joining the middle school orchestra in 6th grade, and attended a performing arts magnet high school for orchestra in Miami, FL. Upon graduating, he received a scholarship to attend the University of Miami to major in Viola. He graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with tutelage under Pamela McConnell and studying a variety of music genres, including chamber, symphonic, jazz, and modern styles.

Daniel has been teaching piano, violin, and viola privately since 2003. He had also begun a teaching career in Miami, Florida, teaching languages other than English to high school students, and moved up to the DC area to teach elementary school grades. He holds a MA in Linguistics from Florida International University, and is currently working on his PhD in Education at the University of Colorado Boulder. His pedagogy is greatly influenced by his educational and teaching experience, prioritizing student-centered instruction and interests.

He has been involved with music in a variety of capacities throughout his teaching career. Daniel has been involved in local community orchestras and choirs in Miami, Washington, D.C., and Paris, France. In the Denver area, he has also joined community orchestras to continue playing music while working on his PhD. He is thrilled to join Lessons in your Home in Denver to share his passion of music.
