About Dan Sebastian
Dan received his Bachelor's Degree in Trombone Performance from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He credits his time at Baylor University for teaching him the value of a supportive and nurturing environment balanced with hard work and dedication. Dan has had the unique opportunity to be able to study with a long list of great trombonists across the nation. His primary teachers include Brent Phillips (Marine Band/Baylor University), John Rojak (American Brass Quintet/Juilliard), and Matthew Guilford (National Symphony Orchestra). In 2009, Dan was selected as bass trombonist for the Carnegie Hall Orchestral Winds seminar where he collaborated with the principals from the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera, and Philadelphia Orchestra. He has performed with professional ensembles such as Harrisburg Symphony, Waco Symphony Orchestra, and the Gaylen Jeter Jazz Orchestra. Dan has been a scholarship and fellowship recipient for some of the most prestigious music festivals, including the National Orchestral Institute and the Aspen Music Festival. Dan has performed as a featured soloist with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra and the Baylor University Trombone Choir. He was also finalist for the International Trombone Association's solo and orchestral excerpt competitions, Runner-up at the Big XII Solo Competition, and a finalist at the Eastern Trombone Workshop Solo Competition. Dan's extensive performance and professional experience has provided him with a well-rounded approach to teaching. Dan has taught extensively in Texas, providing master classes for trombone and bass trombone for over 6 years. Dan also teaches tuba and euphonium. In 2010, Dan moved to Maryland with his wife, Gina, to start work on his Master's degree at the University of Maryland. Dan plans on pursuing a Graduate Performer's Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in the fall of 2012.
