About Cheryl Kerrick
Cheryl Coutinho is a Washington, D.C. based voice and piano instructor originally from Poole, England. She moved to the U.S. in 2015 to be with her husband and is actively teaching and performing in the area. Cheryl specializes in opera performance and is a soprano who has performed in a number of productions ranging from contemporary to classical repertoire.
Cheryl's educational background began as a child on piano, and at age 15, she reached an ABRSM certification level of 8. She also served as a church organist. In conjunction with piano study, Cheryl realized her true passion was classical voice, and she focused her collegiate musical study in that area. She was awarded the Gladys Bratton and Trust Scholarship to attend Trinity College of Music, London, which is where she received her master's degree in vocal performance.
After receiving her master's degree and continuing an active career in opera performance, Cheryl established herself as a voice and piano teacher in London, working in various settings. She worked with teenagers in public schools to do weekly lessons and she had the opportunity to coach various levels - from intermediate students through those preparing for collegiate auditions on both instruments. She also has experience working with younger beginners and crafts her curriculum around songs that engage the student.
As a music teacher, Cheryl strives to make music an integral part of every student's life, and as an artist, continues to advance her personal craft through performance and contributing to musical education.
