About Brian Mixon
Brian Mixon has been playing the drums for 20 years and teaching drums for 10 years. He is versed in jazz, blues, rock, pop, funk, soul and r&b. In addition to playing in several jazz and rock/indie bands in the Denver club scene, he stays up-to-date on new teaching methodologies to give his students the best chance of success. Brian focuses on musicality layered on top of a solid technical foundation. Lessons usually start with a rudimental warm-up and then proceed to the drum set where groove is stressed above all else. Once that is established then more advanced topics such as soloing, polyrhythms and sight reading is introduced.
Having begun piano 5 years ago, Brian is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge and love for beginning piano with other beginning piano students. Having studied music theory at Metro State and piano with jazz great Justin Adams, Brian has a wealth of information to get you playing right away.
