About Biswita Mozumdar

Biswita Mozumdar is a piano teacher and lifelong musician based in the NoVA / Washington D.C. area. She began her musical studies at an early age in India, showing a marked aptitude for piano. Her parents enrolled her in piano lessons, and she continued throughout childhood. She is now a piano instructor who works with students of all ages on the instrument and specializes in classical methodology and young beginner instruction.

Biswita was selected for inclusion in the prestigious Trinity College certificate program at St. Anne's Piano School where she was awarded the Grade 8 Royal Schools of Music certificate. She continued her studies at the renowned Calcutta School of Music, winning the Judges Commendation Medal for performance. Studying under the late Peter Hunt, she was introduced to Chopin and regularly performs his E minor and E flat nocturnes to this day. Her studies under Fauzia Marikar and Indrani Guha enhanced her love of classical dance piano further, and quotes Brahms Waltz in A Flat and the Hungarian Dance No. 5 as her favorite pieces.

Biswita is currently an active member of the Washington Metropolitan Accordion Society and regularly performs at piano recitals and concerts with various DC area chamber music groups. Her vast repertoire includes 20th-cenury composers, such as George Gerschwin -- particularly his preludes -- Prokofiev's Vision Fugue.

In her teaching, Biswita's main goal is to help each student have a personalized and enriching experience with their music study. She works with students of all ages and is a young beginner specialist with Lessons In Your Home, specializing in pedagogical techniques with students ages 3 to 8. With students who have reached more advanced levels, she brings a comprehensive knowledge of intermediate and advanced classical repertoire and can assist with Trinity College exam preparation.

Biswita believes all students can enjoy music wherever they are in their journey, and her approach is shaped by her students' own, unique goals. Fundamentals of music are emphasized from the very beginning, so that students are empowered to gain reading and interpretation independence. In developing these essential skills and processes, Biswita hopes to pass on the tradition and joy piano study to the next generation.
