About Alexandra Jones

Alexandra Jones is a piano instructor and concert performer based in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area, and works with students of all ages and levels -- from young beginners through advanced levels.

A native of Rockville, MD, Alexandra has always had music in her life. She started piano lessons as a young child and fell in love instantly. That love intensified as Alexandra continued her study throughout childhood. Though she explored other instruments during that time, she knew teaching and performing on piano was the right path for her. Following her heart, Alexandra enrolled at St. Mary's College where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music under the tutelage of internationally renowned pianist Brian Ganz. She then went on to earn her Master's Degree in Piano Performance from George Mason University, studying alongside Dr. Linda Apple Monson.

An active performer in the DMV, Alexandra is influenced by a wide range of performers -- from Vladimir Ashkenazy and Claudio Arrau to Led Zeppelin. Her most recent international performance was in Alba, Italy at the 2019 Alba Music Festival.

Alexandra works with piano students of all ages and abilities. She believes that a well-rounded musician is versed in all aspects of musical expression, including composition, improvisation, and thoughtful listening. By emphasizing musical skills and concepts that are not specific to the piano -- rhythm, ear training, sight reading, music theory, and more -- Alexandra ensures that her students will be successful wherever their musical journey takes them. She works with her students not just on building musical skills but also life skills, such as perseverance, dedication, and problem-solving skills. She encourages the exploration of a variety of genres, from classical and jazz to pop and film scores. Above all, Alexandra strives to share not only the beauty and wonder of the piano, but also to instill knowledge and appreciation of music as a whole. When she is not performing or teaching, Alexandra is out hiking with her two dogs, Boo and Roscoe, or searching for the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe (she thinks she found it!).
