About Alex Blanchard

Always pushing towards new ideas and methods for learning music, Alex Blanchard has dedicated his life to self-expression through drumming. Starting from the age of 9 up until 12 years old, he had taken private lessons with Mike Grove and Earnest Potts, in drums and clarinet respectively, at Percussion Center in Houston, TX. During his early teenage years, he performed on the Spring Woods High School drum line while also drumming for a multitude of Houston artists at recording studios such as Dead City Sounds, HCC, Sugar Hill, and more. In 2010, at the age of 18, he had the opportunity of either entering Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts or touring the US as a session drummer. Alex ended up taking the latter, soon realizing that he had started down the path of his life-long dream; being a working musician. Between the years of 2011 and 2013, he toured the US west coast, mid-west and south-east, gaining the skill-sets necessary to work with teams of professional musicians and all the while passing down his experience and knowledge, teaching private music lessons.

Alex is a primarily self-taught drummer/instrumentalist who studies the works of George Stone, Ted Reed, and John Riley. He has a unique approach to drums, keeping the focus of rhythm just as important as the melody, thus enhancing his students melodic approach to their rhythmic foundation on the drum set. Teaching drum lessons for 5 years and counting has been his way to motivate himself and others to follow their passion. Alex strongly believes that having fun and enjoying yourself on your instrument is the key to unlocking your true potential and embracing a journey that is a life-long pursuit of knowledge through creativity. Seeing fellow musicians or students simply enjoying their time playing music brings him great joy and is what truly inspires him to continue down the path of a musician.

Now with music as a full-time career, Alex enjoys not only teaching but, performing a variety of local, nationwide (and soon international) shows with bands playing all styles of music from Jazz and R&B to Rock and Pop. He is currently a session drummer at the newly founded Castle Bravo studios and on the artist roster for Houston's 2nd annual music and visual arts festival, Day For Night, playing drums in pop/rock outfit; Futurelic, along-side many internationally acclaimed artists.

He spends his free time with his family, reading, visiting art, science and history museums or just simply relaxing. Constantly learning new things on his own, teaching others, and sharing his music with the world has been a life-long commitment and passion.
