When we’re taking in-home music lessons, we need to spring clean too. We need to take a moment to get our lessons in order to have successful sessions throughout the spring as we move into summer. The following is a list that will help you spring clean your lesson no matter what instrument you study.

Clean Your Room

I know parents, you’re like “I’m saying this all the time to my kids” but a clean space to take your lessons in is important to their success. Is there sheet music laying around, old method books, etc.? Taking some time to organize your music student’s surroundings helps the student and the music teacher. Music teachers, especially the ones at Lessons In Your Home are in their student’s environments and the condition of any environment contributes to successful habits and practices.

You should keep your instrument clean all the time. A clean instrument is a working one and really helps music lesson students learn correctly. An improperly working instrument could equate to poor technique. Since this article is about spring-cleaning music lessons, there are many ways to clean many instruments. If you need advice on how to clean your instrument or piano tuning and care, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Spring Into Music

Maybe the most important thing you can do is to spring into your music. Take this time to clean your mind and let it focus on the piece your music teacher has assigned to you. Consider starting new music or really honing in on that recital piece for the upcoming concert. Part of cleaning is letting things go and sometimes in spring we may be holding onto a lot of the pieces we were playing the fall. Talk to your teacher and ask if it’s time to move on from a piece that’s been around for a while. Or, if the music is part of your repertoire, ask about the expectations about this music for the long term.

The First Step Is The Hardest

Like many projects, the 1st step is the hardest. Once you decide to clean your musical life understand that there is no right way to do it. Just start, make a decision and go for it. Whats the worst thing that can happen? At least the piano room will be clean, the guitar could get some new strings, or your Saxophone could get a much needed tune up. The point is don’t hesitate because spring only comes around once each year.
