Guitar lessons aren’t just for kids anymore!

Adult Guitar Lessons
Now is the time!

More and more adults are choosing to pick up music as a new hobby. Many of them start because they’ve always wanted to and now they have the time and money and some because of new research indicating that putting your brain to work with music/puzzles/challenging activities can help prevent Alzheimer’s Disease. Whatever the reason, guitar lessons as an adult don’t have to be a daunting task. Here are some tips for you to think about as you start:

Adult Guitar Lessons – Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks

Realize that it’s never too late: Some adults feel that they might be “too old” to be a beginner. NONSENSE! You are never too old to try something new. If anything, I think adults are at an advantage to the child beginner. (Most) Adults don’t have the attention span thing working against them and they aren’t being forced to take lessons. In my experience, older students retain the information and work harder to apply it than children.

Understand The Reason You Take Lessons

Rock & Roll is here to stay!

Communicate Your Goals: Talk to your teacher about your goals and why you decided to start taking lessons. Do you want to learn the basics and play classical music? Do you want to learn classic rock songs? Do you want to learn one song in particular? Do you want to learn theory? Have you heard horror stories about scales and never want to see one? Do you want to be able to play your piano player friend? We can customize your lessons to be exactly what you want.

Schedule Practice: You probably have a routine that you’re used to and it might be hard to remember to practice, even if you have the time! Make it a new part of your daily routine. Squeeze in 30 minutes after dinner or play while you watch your favorite show.

Setting Examples For Your Kids

Be an Example for your kids: If you still have children in the house, you being a student can be one of the best examples for them. They can see you start and dedicate yourself to it without quitting. Show them how to practice, even when it’s hard and even when you would rather do nothing.

Have Fun With It: Don’t be too hard on yourself. There are areas in music that will be difficult to understand and even harder to apply physically, but try to remember your goals. When it comes to guitar lessons as an adult, it’s all about fun!
