Full Music Student Rosters – It’s Fall! Lets Get Music Lessons Started
Dear Lessons In Your Home teaching staff,
Fall is upon us, we’ve of course been teaching throughout the summer but for most of us, we only average about 70% of our studio size on any given week, and during the month of July, probably less. The following are some to-dos and to-don’ts to insure you’re doing the best job a Lessons In Your Home teacher can do.
Your Call To Action! You are the Music Instructor.
So you see all the students on your roster, some of which you haven’t seen and some you have. Don’t sit on your bum; you have stuff to do to make your fall the best season for teaching. Get started now!
What to do? These are your Music Students right!
1. Send an email or call each of your families and TELL them when their lessons are resuming normal days and times. Why do I say TELL? Because the last thing you want to do is make it seem as though they have to set lessons up all over again. Remember our policy at Lessons In Your Home is that all fall lesson days and times start with the same times we ended with in spring–not the times we have been teaching during the summer. If a student is looking for a different time, and you can do it, great, make that happen. But don’t start with change.
2. Bring Excitement into Fall Music Lessons. Your students are going to need to get back into the routine, especially if they haven’t taken or only had a few lessons throughout the summer. Remember our mission statement: positive reinforcement! No one likes to feel behind on the first day back.
3. Introduce new music. Buying school supplies is always the best part of starting back at school, so maybe adding some new songs to your teaching repertoire is just what the doctor ordered.
4. Call, call and call. Don’t wait. This was number one on the list too, but it’s important enough to mention again. On your student roster, in the Lessons In Your Home web system, you see all the students that are active. Please give them their confirmation day and time.
5. If you have any issues please contact your director. That’s what we are here for. We can’t help you if we don’t know what you need. Our job is taking care of you!
What not to do:
1. Don’t wait for a student to call you. Why would you? If they are on your roster they are an active student. The longer you wait the more likely something can come up that might interfere with a students music lessons.
2. Don’t assume. ANYTHING. You are in control of your lessons, your schedule, and your teaching abilities, so don’t leave anything to assumption. You know the sayingJ.
3. Don’t add a new student to a current student’s roster spot at their default scheduled time just because you want new students. It’s bad form and not inline with the policies we set forth. We allow students to take some time off during the summer and return with you at there already scheduled day and time. Don’t damage that.
Your Music Teaching Success Is In Your Hands.
We always teach you, our teachers the same thing. Do your best for each student and you’ll always have a full studio. We believe that teaching is a gift that we all receive when we help others learn to play a music instrument or sing. Keep giving your best in lessons all the time! Never give a student a reason to stop taking lessons. Think of all the positive effects music has had on your life.
