About Rhea Tucker

Rhea Tucker was born in Chesapeake Virginia and grew up in Virginia Beach Virginia. She started playing the saxophone at the age of 9 and followed with piano and steel drums at the age of 12. Once entering middle school it was just a confirmation that she wanted to pursue music as a life-long career. In high school she attended Tallwood High School in conjunction with the Governor's School for the Arts, a performing arts school for each arts discipline (music, art, dance, theatre and musical theatre), for four years (2008-2011) in conjunction with the steel drum ensemble Rhythm Project. During this time she started experimenting with the electric bass and eventually went on to self-teach herself this instrument.

After graduating from Tallwood High School and the Governor's School for the Arts, Rhea started at George Mason University where she is currently receiving her Bachelor of Music in Music Education; she is now completing her senior year. Over the past four years she has received training and required courses on fundamentals in woodwind, brass, percussion and string instruments. She has performed with a variety of ensemble at Mason including the Mason Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Jazz Workshop, Mason Jazz Ensemble and George Mason Sax Quartet.

While teaching with Lessons In Your Home, Rhea also teaches an after school elementary band program and middle school band sectionals in the Fairfax County Public School system. She hopes to continue building a relationship with her current students and future students and fostering a love and appreciation for music.
