About Michael Groome

Michael Groome is a bass guitarist, songwriter, and private instructor currently working to complete his Bachelor of Music degree at the University Of Southern California Thornton School Of Music. There, he studies Popular Music with an emphasis in bass performance and has studied with Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report, Santana, sessions), Patrice Rushen, Andy Abad (Clay Aiken, Marc Anthony, sessions), Will Hollis (Eagles), and Sean Holt (The Arsenio Hall Show) among others.

In high school, Michael performed in a few local rock groups, a volunteer-run community jazz band, and played washtub bass and acoustic guitar for the American roots ensemble, The Galloway School Jug Band, which he brought to the attention of Atlanta Magazine and Public Broadcasting Atlanta. With his love for music, and early fascination of music theory, Michael knew he wanted to spend his life as a musician.

In addition his studies of performance, production, songwriting, composition, theory, and music history, Michael performs with a number of Los Angeles projects that have been on the same lineup as big artists like Diplo, Tyga, Dan Deacon, Chelsea Wolf, and Crash Kings.

Michael has been giving private lessons for the past three years and always encourages a love of music above all else. He can be flexible and work towards the exact topic a student wishes to improve, and he knows where to lead students if they are unsure of what their focus should be. His broad education of classical, rock, pop, and jazz provides a strong foundation for his lessons, and they can be as fun as they are educational.
