About Maria Stewart

Maria Stewart, born in Saint Paul, Minnesota and holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education.

During high school, she began getting involved in community and professional theater. This love of the stage eventually led to performing leading and supporting roles in musicals and operas including Meet Me In St. Louis, Guys and Dolls, The Wizard of Oz, L'Elisir d'amore and H.M.S. Pinafore. Maria has also performed in NATS master classes and as a soprano soloist in Schubert's Mass in G Major and The Messiah. Though much of her performing experience is in voice and theater, Maria has been extensively trained in piano and guitar.

Currently, Maria teaches private piano, voice, and guitar. She also coaches in preparation for college auditions, theater auditions, and musical theater auditions.

All students, no matter the instrument, will have a strong education in theory, ear-training, performance techniques on their instrument, as well as music history related to the repertoire assigned. Maria also emphasizes the importance and ability to be able to apply the learning objectives and skills of classical training to all genres of music.

As a firm believer no two people are alike, each of her students learn the same things; however, the methods are all uniquely tailored to each student. Maria's mission is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. She hopes to accomplish this by tailoring each method of teaching towards the needs and personalities of each individual student.
