About Kevin Tu
Kevin Tu is a graduate from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and psychology. He currently works as a part-time piano teacher, chess coach and math tutor. During his free time, Kevin enjoys watching movies, playing video games and spending time with people. He is also an active member of his church community serving as a choir director, worship team member and youth counselor.
Music has been Kevin's passion since the age of six when he first began taking piano lessons with his teacher of 12 years, Diane Williams. During that time, Kevin received rigorous classical training through the Suzuki piano method and perennial entries in state adjudications and competitions, including the Simon Fiset competition and the Young Artists Festival. He has also studied under Doctors Patricia Michaelian and Dainius Vaicekonis during his four years at the university.
Over his young career, Kevin has taken part in many exclusive musical experiences. He has performed in some of the most famous venues in downtown Seattle, including the Paramount Theater, the Moore Theater, McCaw Hall and Benaroya Hall, as both a guest artist and orchestra member for various professional music groups. He is currently an orchestra member for Christian artist Michael W. Smith every year he tours the Pacific Northwest and has also had the privilege of recording violin tracks for pop artists Lupe Fiasco and Ed Sheeran in their single, "Old School Love."
As a teacher, Kevin is engaging, fun and energetic. During his four years of teaching, Kevin has taught a variety of students with different musical interests, where he has learned to tailor his lessons by teaching ear training, chord reading, and improvisation to a handful of students as a supplement to their classical training. His flexibility and broad musical knowledge makes him the ideal teacher for any student looking to learn a lot and enjoy playing music.
