About John Gelderloos
John Gelderloos is a multi instrumentalist singer-songwriter who has enjoyed learning music since he was ten. He attended Northern Virginia Community College and has been teaching guitar and drums for four years.
After playing the viola and clarinet during elementary and middle school, John's enthusiasm for music began in earnest at age 13 when he started playing the drums in a rock band. His instrumental repertoire has since expanded to include the piano, guitar, banjo, and various styles of music. Currently, he is focused on writing original material and has been performing regularly in the DC area as well as in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands for several months during 2012.
As a teacher, John understands the struggles many students have with maintaining the self discipline required to learn an instrument. When a teacher adheres to a rigid curriculum, some students find themselves bored and uninspired. In order to keep practice interesting and motivating, he adapts his lessons to each individual student to tap into the things that piqued their interest in music in the first place and to unlock their creative potential. Above all, John enjoys imparting his love of learning and of sharing music with others.
