About Erin Smith

Erin Smith, is a clarinetist and pianist born and raised in Houston, Texas. Erin began playing clarinet when she was 11 years old, and has continued to progress her musicianship at the University of North Texas. During her education, Erin had the opportunity to play in chamber, jazz, wind band and orchestral settings as well as in musical pit orchestras, and recitals. She has performed advanced repertoire by Brahms, Debussy, Mozart, Malcom Arnold, Saint-Seans, and much more. Before learning clarinet, Erin was inspired by her musical family to start piano lessons at age 8 and has been playing since. She also has a background playing the saxophone in jazz band and marching band. In addition to Bb clarinet, Erin is also very fond of the Eb clarinet and as had the opportunity to play the instrument throughout high school, for the Texas 6A AllState Concert Band, and several times in the ensembles she performed in at UNT.
Erin believes that above all, music should be fun. She brings this mindset when she is teaching to create an environment where creativity can thrive. Erin is appreciative of all genres of music, and enjoys playing and listening to jazz, and pop music outside of her classical studies. She sees the individual behind the musician and understands that we all have different ways of learning and appreciating music. She always aims to cater her teaching style to each individual so that we can create a more enjoyable and productive musical environment.
