About Christopher Watson

Chris Watson is a violin, piano and guitar instructor in the Washington, D.C. area. He enjoys making lessons fun and intriguing to improve his students' literacy, as well as increase their sense of musicianship.

Chris started playing the violin when he was 9 years old. He continued his study throughout childhood at various schools and institutions including the Levine School of Music. He studied Performance and Composition at the Berklee College of Music, and had the opportunity to study privately with Brian Clague while there. Influenced by Nat King Cole, Stephane Grappelli, Earth Wind & Fire, Coldplay, and more, Chris enjoys performing a variety of genres, and draws on those influences to create his own music as well.

Chris has experience teaching violin to a wide variety of ages and skill levels and strives to help every student make the most out of each experience. His philosophy on teaching music lies heavily with an understanding of what it means to be a musician. He enjoys helping each student learn the importance of both theory and performance, and employs the methodology that best fits each student's individual goals.

In addition to violin, Chris also teaches piano and guitar -- both of which he has studied since early childhood and continued through college. He enjoys teaching a broad range of styles on both, including classical, jazz, and pop, and encourages his students to choose pieces in genres that speak to them.

When he's not playing or teaching music, Chris enjoys photography, visual arts and seeking adventure with friends. He is excited to share his musical knowledge and experience, and looks forward to inspiring new musicians!
